Prof Ariaya graduated with a B. Pharm Degree in June 1979 from the School of Pharmacy, Addis Ababa University and started his academic career immediately after graduation as a Graduate Assistant in the same School. He joined the University of IFE, Nigeria for three years starting April 1983. He got promoted to the rank of Assistant professor in July 1996. He joined the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in August 2001 and received his Doctoral degree in September 2005. He got promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in February 2007 and Full professor in May 2016.
