"Prof. Aref Abu-Rabia has received his PhD in Tel Aviv University during in1992. Currently, he is working as a Lecturer at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as Chair Department of Middle East Studies. His research has included Anthropology and Public Health. His main publications are on traditional medicine, family customs, holy saints, education, violence & abuse of children; cosmopolitanism, Sufism, Islamic medical law and ethics. His research focuses on the Middle East, North Africa and Islamic communities in the West. Based on this research and fellowship training he has received several awards and honors, such as: The Berelson Prize for Jewish-Arab Understanding and Co-Existence in Israel; Greenberg Middle East Scholar; and Fulbright Scholar for the Muslim World. He has authored 62 research articles, 6 books. He is a member of the American Anthropological Association; Israel Anthropological Association; and World Association for Medical Law. "
