Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, commonly known as COPD, is a group of progressive lung disorders characterized by obstructed airflow in and out of the lungs. The primary subtypes of COPD include chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Chronic bronchitis is defined by inflammation of the airways, leading to a persistent cough with mucus production, while emphysema involves damage to the air sacs in the lungs, leading to reduced lung elasticity.
