Masao Koda is a spinal surgeon and spinal cord injury researcher who belongs to the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Chiba University Graduate School of Medicine. He graduated from the Chiba University School of Medicine in 1991 and finished his PhD at Chiba University Graduate School of Medicine in 2004. He is one of the leading experts in the field of spinal cord injury regeneration research, with a specialty in clinical trials for spinal cord injury. He is a member of several spinal cord injury and spinal surgery-related societies: The Japan Medical Society of Spinal Cord Lesion (Executive Committee), Japan Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research (Executive Committee), Society for Neuroscience, National Neurotrauma Society and International Spinal Cord Society, etc. He is now conducting a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial of granulocyte colony stimulating factor-mediated neuroprotection for acute spinal cord injury.
