Abstract :

Acupuncture has been recommended and increasingly used to solve oral health problems. The objective of this study is to describe the methodology and results of the evaluations of undergraduate students of the course of Dentistry of four years of training, in a public university in Brazil. 38 students (70% of the 3rd Year) enrolled in the elective course of Acupuncture, of which 27 responded to the evaluation questionnaire (Likert scale). There were 48 hours of theoretical and practical classes, seminars and activities making posters with acupuncture and related themes to the area, exposed in public places. The tools used in the classroom were the google apps (gmail, drive, forms, flubaroo complement, google spreadsheets and yotube videos). Most responded that the course met their expectations totally (41.0%) or partially (48.0%), more or less (11.0%). Although half the time in this elective course is intended for practical classes, students suggested to enlarge this part and/or extend the content into 2 semesters. Dental graduation students showed interest in the elective course of acupuncture for the first time given in this public University and evaluated positively, so from this year it will be offered regularly. This proposal was an innovation in the teaching of Dentistry in Brazil. The knowledge obtained by these students now can be applied in clinical course, under supervision, thus expanding the education of students and the quality of life of patients treated under this integrated vision.
