Abstract :

Our center first investigated oocyte collection nearly 20 years ago as a method of improving reproduction potential in certain camels that failed to produce offspring by conventional methods. Most commonly the presence of bursal fluid surrounding the ovary leads to infertility in certain camels. In vitro fertilization (I.V.F.) and more recently cloning provide a solution, but both rely on the collection of oocytes for success. Our paper looks at improvement of techniques and equipment involved with oocyte collection and the improvement we have seen since we first attempted the technique in the camel. It also discusses a wide variation seen in collection results using superovulation as a method to increase potential oocyte recovery in donor animals.
