Recently, the application of wireless sensor networks (WSN) has grown rapidly. It requires confidential data aggregation protocols to secure data from compromise. Maintaining the confidentiality of sensor data is a difficult task. This article presents a data aggregation protocol based on a non-linear regression to preserve the confidentiality of the sensor data. The proposed protocol uses nonlinear regression functions to represent the sensor data collected from the sensor nodes. Instead of sending the complete data to the cluster head, the sensor nodes send only the coefficients of the nonlinear function. This will reduce network communication costs. Data aggregation is performed on the masked coefficients and the receiving node is able to retrieve the approximate results on the aggregated data. Analysis of the results of the experiment shows that the proposed protocol is able to minimize communication costs, improve the accuracy of data aggregation and preserve the confidentiality of the data.
