Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). During EMDR therapy sessions, you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in short doses while the therapist directs your eye movements. is considered effective because recalling distressing events is often less emotionally overwhelming when your attention is diverted. This allows you to be exposed to memories or thoughts without having a strong psychological response. Over time, this technique is believed to reduce the impact that memories or thoughts have on you. Because trauma differs between individuals, depending on their subjective experiences, people will react differently to similar traumatic events. In other words, not everyone who experiences a potentially traumatic event will be truly psychologically traumatized. However, it is possible that some people develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after being exposed to a major traumatic event. This difference in the risk rate can be attributed to the protective factors that some people may have that allow them to cope with trauma; they are linked, among other things, to capricious and environmental factors. Some examples are the characteristics of resilience and active seeking help.
