A cataract is a clouding up of the lens within the eye resulting in a decrease in vision. They will have an effect on one or each eyes. Usually they develop slowly. Symptoms might include light colours, hazy vision, halos around light, problem with bright lights, and problem seeing at the hours of darkness.Cataracts can be treated with surgery. Most common cataract surgery procedure is phacoemulsification. The oher techniques are posterior capsulotomy, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation etc.Ophthalmology is a medical specialty that deals with anatomy and physiology of the eye while discussing about the disorders and therapeutic solutions to provide safe and healthy eye care. Ophthalmologists are the specialists that provide both medical and surgical care to the eye related disorders. There are many sub-specialties within the ophthalmology that include Retinal ophthalmology, Cataract, Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Ocular Oncology, pediatric ophthalmology, Refractive surgery, etc. They also operate on cases that need surgery to correct optic errors. They are trained professionals that prepare glasses and contact lenses based on the physical examination and diagnosis of the disorder.
