Organ transplantation is the movement of an organ from one body to another or from a donor site to another location on the patient's body, in order to replace the damaged or absent organ in the recipient. The emerging field of regenerative medicine allows scientists and engineers to create organs to reproduce from the patient's own cells i.e stem cells or cells extracted from failing organs. The organs and / or tissues transplanted into the body of the same person are called autografts. Recent transplants between two subjects of the same species are called allografts. Allografts can come from a living or cadaveric source.
