A Rain Gauge is an instrument to measure rainfall, which is measured in millimeters. Occasionally the rain fall is also reported in centimeters or in inches. The measuring tube measures to a hundredth inch. A standard rain gauge consists of a funnel leading to a measuring tube. The area of the circular top of the funnel is 10 times that of the tube's cross section, so that one inch of water falling on the funnel will rise to 10 inches in the tube. When it is full, it contains one inch of rain. The top open access journals are peer reviewed scholarly journals of hydrology.
