Non-pathogenic Mycobacterium Smegmatis

Mycobacterium contains different species out of which mycobacterium smegmatis is considered to be non-pathogenic as it does not cause any disease even in people with very low amount of immunity. It is because of the difference in phenotype which can be explained by the strong induction of an innate immune response by non-pathogenic mycobacterial species. This bacteria is considered to be from acid first bacterial species in the phylum actinobacteria and from genum mycobacterium it is generally 3 to 5 micrometre in length and has bacillus shape. They can be stained by using ziehl-Neelsen and method and or auramine-rhodamine fluorescent method.
