Melanoma is a specific type of skin cancer. It occurs when melanocytes (pigment cells) are cancerous. Most pigment cells are located in the skin, while melanoma may also occur in the eyes (ocular melanoma) and other parts of the body. There are many types of skin cancer, but melanoma is one of the most common types of skin cancer, although it is much less common than basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers. Melanoma is a rarer but more dangerous type of skin cancer than any other type due to its rapidly spreading nature. It's really rare in people with dark skin. Melanoma is the most known and most important preventative cancer of the skin. The treatment of skin cancer is very similar to that of other cancers, except that the goal of skin cancer therapy is invariably to completely remove it, which may be due to its location.
