Maxillofacial Surgery is an exciting and challenging specialty of Dentistry that mixes dental, medical, and surgical knowledge and skills. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is that the specialty of Dentistry that concentrates on the diagnosis and surgical management of oral and maxillofacial pathologic conditions, including epithelial diseases and mesenchyme disorders of soppy and hard tissues.
Maxillofacial surgery includes diagnosis, surgery and treatment of defects, injuries and diseases mainly within the oral hard and soft tissues, head, neck, face and maxillofacial region i.e. jaws and face. Functions of oral and maxillofacial surgeon may exclude dental replacements, jaw, oral and facial tumour diagnosis and removal, jaw and facial bone alignment, jaw reconstruction, etc.
This talk will explore the Birmingham way of maxillofacial reconstruction, with tips about surgical technique and our use of technology in a very cost effective way.
