Maternal Risk Factors

Low birth weight is influenced by many socio-economic factors such as housing, urban or rural, education, birth order, mother's addiction, religion and caste, age of the mother, the nutritional status of the mother, the body mass index, the hemoglobin level, etc., the quality of the antenatal care received (ANC) and the spacing of pregnancies. Low birth weight babies pose a challenge to families and communities. They contribute significantly to perinatal and neonatal mortality as well as mental, physical and developmental problems of the pediatric population.
