Intellectual disability,ID which is called as mental retardation is characterized by below-average intelligence or mental ability and a lack of skills necessary for day to day lives. There are varying degrees of intellectual disability, from mild to profound.Intellectual disability (ID) becomes apparent during childhood and involves deficits in mental abilities, social skills, and core activities of daily living (ADLs) when compared to same-aged peers. There often are no physical signs of mild forms of ID, although there may be characteristic physical traits when it is associated with a genetic disorder like Down syndrome. It affects about one percent of the population and about 85 percent have mild intellectual disability. Males are more likely than females to be diagnosed with intellectual disability.People in this category are often physically impaired, have hearing loss, are nonverbal, or have a physical disability. These factors may prevent your child’s doctor from conducting screening tests.OMICS Group through its Open Access Initiative is resolved to make real and solid commitments to established researchers.
