Immunohistochemistry

Immunohistochemistry is a process where antigens are detected in cells by application of antigen antibody interactions in biological fluids with the help of radio labeled antibodies. It is useful in the detection of tumor and stage of cancer. IHC is also useful in drug development by detecting the up or down regulation of disease targets. This review supports a brief characterization of the specialized aspects of immunohistochemistry, and a detailed analysis on the variables that affect the interpretation, results, and reproducibility of IHC results. Immunohistochemistry is a essential tool allowing to quickly perform the diagnosis of many cancers, but also to provide the prognosis of some of them. More recently, IHC, through the use of new biomarkers, can be predictive of responsiveness of some targeted therapies.
