The branch of psychiatry that deals with the relationship between mental illness and social climate. Social psychiatry incorporates a medical background and experience with areas such as social science, social psychology, cultural psychiatry, sociology and other topics related to emotional illness and disorder. It focuses on the cultural and interpersonal context of mental disorder & illness. Social Psychiatry is a branch of psychiatry that deals with the causation, course, and outcome of mental disorder in collaboration with related specialties (as sociology and anthropology) influenced by social and cultural factors. Human beings are social creatures, and family or social relationships can pose a number of difficulties as well as help our social functioning. The conventional approach to mental illness has been based on irregular thoughts, actions and behaviors in response to internal causes (such as biological factors) and external causes such as social determinants and social stressors.
