Echocardiography Research Articles

With the increasing incidence of heart failure and valvular heart disease 1–2, it has been hypothesized that the role of non-invasive cardiac imaging, particularly echocardiography and resonance imaging cardiac magnetic, will become even more essential.3 Transthoracic echocardiographic imaging (TTE) is the most commonly performed non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tool, with around 25 million studies carried out each year worldwide.4 Considering the substantial quantity From clinical and research data on echocardiography in the medical literature, it is difficult for a clinician to approach the large amount of resources in an efficient, timely and accurate manner. The diversity of procedures, their relevance to cardiac pathology and their diagnostic and therapeutic significance translate into a similar heterogeneity of the data on cardiac imaging and of the journals which publish them. As we enter the future of evidence-based medicine, the organization of this information becomes more and more crucial to allow the detection of gaps and weaknesses in these knowledge repositories. This data can help improve research productivity by facilitating research attribution and streamlining research organizations.5 Although debated6, the frequency of citations remains the most effective and simple tool for assessing the quality of scientific work. Bibliometrics use these numbers of citations to determine the characteristics of the most influential research publications on a specific subject. Citation classics have been published in almost all areas and subspecialties.7–20 However, no analysis has been performed in echocardiography or cardiac imaging. To fill this gap, we performed a analysis to identify the top 100 echocardiography articles and to provide readers with a brief overview of the important features of echocardiography articles that have had a disproportionate impact on the field of medicine.
