Artificial Insemination (AI) is one of the infertility treatments available for both men and women. In this technique, the sperm is directly introduced into woman’s uterus, fallopian tube or cervix. The fertilized egg is then introduced into woman’s uterus. Most often, IVF is not the first treatment suggested for infertility because of its complex nature and costs involved in it.The main reason for the renewed interest in artificial insemination in human was illustrated with the refinement of technologies for the preparation of washed motile spermatozoa in the early years of IVF. The history of artificial insemination is inspected with particular concern to the most important hurdles and milestones. A mechanism of cervical ripening at parturition and the endocrine powers on cervical tone are evoluted as a backdrop to recognizing the action of various pharmacological agents used to induce cervical dilation.
