Civil Service

The term civil service can be defined as follows: The term usually refers to managers paid to enforce national government policies. Civil service members work for state administration, and are named civil servants or government officials for that purpose. The civil service is a generalized term for a government sector composed primarily of career bureaucrats employed on professional merit, rather than appointed or elected, whose institutional tenure usually survives political leadership transitions. A civil servant or public servant is a person so employed for a government department or agency in the public sector. Civil (or public) servants work for departments of government, and respond to the government, not a political party. The extent of a State's civil servants as part of the "civil service" varies across countries.
