Atherosclerosis is the major cause of morbidities and mortalities worldwide. Atherosclerosis is a cardiovascular disorder in which plaque gets deposited on inner walls of arteries which leads to narrowing and thickening of them. Atherosclerosis also attributed as arteriosclerosis. The role of antioxidants and medicinal herbs in atherosclerosis and endothelial damage has been deliberated and a list of critical medicinal plants adequate in the treatment and avoidance of hyperglycemia and atherosclerosis is granted. Initial fatty streaks emerge into fibrous plaques, some of which develop into forms that are accessible to rupture, causing thrombosis or stenosis. The recently published papers about atherosclerosis pathogenesis and herbal medicines effective in the medication and prevention of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis were searched.
