It is a method of development of blood vessel involving migration growth, and differentiation of endothelial cells, which lines the inside wall of blood vessels. It plays a crucial role in cancer growth. It involves binding of signaling molecules, such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), to receptors on the surface of normal endothelial cells.
The process of angiogenesis is manage by chemical signals in the body. These signals can stimulate both the service of damaged blood vessels and the formation of new blood vessels.
Angiogenesis is the growth of new blood vessels and is a key action which occurs during both physiological and pathological disease processes. Knowledge of the mechanisms through which this process is initiated and maintained will have a significant impact on the treatment of these diseases. Pathological angiogenesis occurs in major diseases such as cancer, diabetic retinopathies, age-related macular degeneration and atherosclerosis. In other diseases such as blow and myocardial infarction, insufficient or improper angiogenesis results in tissue loss and ultimately higher morbidity and mortality
