Biography

Born in 1963 in Huangyan, a town on the southeast coast of China , Cai Tianxin got Ph.D in number theory from Shandong University in 1987, his supervisor is Prof. Pan Chengdong, Later he got a job in Hangzhou University, and became a professor in 1994. Since 1998, he has been a professor at Zhejiang University. He was a visiting professor at Georgia, USA, Nancy, France, Madrid, Spain, Cambridge, UK, Goettingen, Germany, Antioquia, Colombia, Kharkov, Ukriane, etc.. His main interests include computational number theory, Diophantine equation and elliptic curves. He is also interested in history of mathematics and science, literature and arts, has published dozens of books, research papers in Computation of Mathematics, Journal of Number Theory, Acta Arithmetica, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, International Journal Number Theory, Bulletin of Aust. Math. Soc., Notices of Amer. Math. Soc. ,etc.. Recently, he proposed a new variant of the Hilbert-Waring problem and Fermat’s Last Theorem, as the referee of Mathematics of Computation says, “this problem is not trivial at all, and I propose that many mathematicians studying additive theory of numbers may find it reasonably interesting”.

Research Interest

Elementary number theory, Combinatorial number theory, Computaional number theory, Congruence and binoomial coefficient, Witten zeta function, Diophantine equation and elliptic curve, History of science, mathematical culture, literature & art
