Biography

Susmita Bose is a Professor in Materials Science and Engineering MSE at the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering MME and an Affiliate Professor in Chemistry at Washington State University WSU She received her BS from Kalyani University India MS from the Indian Institute of Technology – Kanpur and PhD from Rutgers The State University of New Jersey in Chemistry In 1998 she joined the MME at WSU as a research assistant scientist In 2001 she was offered a tenure track Assistant Professor position at MME WSU and was promoted to an Associate level in 2006 and to the full professor in 2010 During 2007 she was a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research CSIR Fellow in India at Central Glass and Ceramics Research Institute CGCRI Jadavpur India In 2008 she was a Visiting Professor at Harvard University Cambridge MA Dr Bose received the CAREER award in 2002 and the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers PECASE the highest honor given to a young scientist by the US President at the White House award in 2004 from the National Science Foundation NSF for her work on nanoscale calcium phosphates for bone implants and drug delivery She was invited by the US National Academy of the Sciences NAS to the ChineseAmerican Kavli symposium from 20062008 as a “Kavli fellow” She was also one of the seven organizing committee members for the ChineseAmerican Kavli symposium In 2009 she received the American Ceramic Society ACerS SchwartzwalderProfessional Achievement in Ceramic Engineering PACE Award

Research Interest

Prof Bose has very interdisciplinary research background and her research expertise lies with synthesis and processing of inorganic nanomaterials, biomaterials, piezoelectric materials, ceramics for gas sensors, bioceramic nano-carriers for drug delivery, microwave and plasma processing of materials, thin and thick films and their relevant characterization. She has received research funding from various state and federal agencies, e.g. NSF, NIH, ONR, Washington Technology Center (WTC), the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust, the W. M. Keck Foundation. Dr. Bose has published over 135 technical articles including 100 journal articles and 6 of her patent applications are currently pending at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
