Svante was one of the founders of Strängnäs spine clinic in 1987 and the spine surgery unit at the department of orthopedics at the Elisabeth hospital in Uppsala in 1993. He introduced disc replacement surgery into Sweden in 1999 and has written a doctoral thesis on the subject. He is continuously active in research, mainly disc replacement surgery but also other subjects.
