Biography

Roger C. McIntosh is Lab Manager/Research Assistant Position Our research lab in the Health Division of the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami, I began at the University of Miami in 2012 as a postdoctoral fellow examining psychoneuroimmunological processes in HIV disease. My work examines a wide range of affective traits and states, (e.g., alexithymia, apathy, psychological distress), and their association with markers of hormonal, inflammatory-immune and cardio-metabolic dysfunction in HIV disease.

Research Interest

Current research initiatives, at the UM neuroimaging facility, focus on the structural and functional brain correlates of affect regulation, within the context of aging and HIV disease progression. I am particularly interested in the use of voxel-based morphology, tractography, spectroscopy and functional connectivity of frontal-striatal and limbic areas commonly implicated in the neuropathogenesis of HIV disease. Moreover, we will examine how these structural and functional changes may lead to downstream changes in autonomic, inflammatory-immune, psychological and cognitive functioning. Additionally, we are interested in plasticity of neural networks implicated in response to pharmacological, behavioral and mind-body interventions.
