Prof. Mathias H. Sturzenegger has been on staff at the Department of Neurology, Inselspital, University of Bern since 1983. 1992 he was appointed Associate Professor based on his research upon craniocervical artery dissections and whiplash injury, and 2000 Full Professor of Neurology. Since 1996 he is Head of Neurology Inpatient and Emergency Services at the University Hospital in Bern. His main professional interests are clinical neurology and teaching. His main research interests are cerebrovascular physiology, neuroimmunologic disorders and pain disorders. His research is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and several other foundations and companies. He has published more than 150 peer reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters. He is a member of several advisory boards and has been elected treasurer of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics, board member of the Swiss Headache Society, Swiss Parkinson Association, and member of the executive of several foundations.
