Masayuki Saijo obtained his M.D. and his Ph.D. in pediatrics from Asahikawa Medical University, in Japan in 1991. He has studied clinical infectious diseases such as RSV infections in children and antiviral-resistant herpes virus infections in immunocompromised subjects. He has joined the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), Tokyo, Japan, in 1997, and has studied viral hemorrhagic fevers such as Ebola.
