Biography

Dr. Kanishka Nilaweera is working as an Senior Research Officer in Teagasc Food Research Centre. He completed his Ph.D in Department of Neuroscience, University of Aberdeen and B.Sc from BSc Upper Second Class (Division 1) Honours in Genetics, University of Aberdeen, UK.  His Interest and Research involves  Identification of nutrients and their bioactive components that could reduce obesity and associated clinical conditions. Nutrients of interest are being tested in mouse models of obesity to assess the impact on food intake and energy expenditure. Nutrients that reduce body weight either by decreasing food intake and/or by increasing energy expenditure, are fractionated and then re-tested to identify the bioactive components and the mechanisms of actions. These Type of research leads add a great knowldege in the medical science world.
