Dr. Johann Wanek is working as a research assistant at the Institute of Evolutionary Medicine (IEM), University of Zurich. he done Ph.D. in Medical Physics and Bioengineering from University College London, United Kingdom. His principal research interests lie in the fields of medical physics, mathematical modelling and computer simulation, risk estimation, quantum biology. The aim of his Ph.D. project was to investigate the effect of X-ray imaging on ancient cells and DNA fragments. This involved developing novel Monte Carlo models to study interaction processes of secondary electrons in anthropomorphic phantom tissues and cell nuclei. The nature of this work is particularly important for studies in anthropological and forensic sciences, where genetic analysis of skeletal remains takes place in combination with the X-ray imaging.
