Biography

Gurpreet S. Wander have passed MBBS with Honours (i.e. more than 70% marks in each subject) and was the Second Best Graduate of the University. During my graduation I was awarded Merit Scholarship and 3 Silver Medals for 1st position in Medicine, Eye, ENT and Forensic Medicine and 2 Bronze Medals for 2nd position in 2nd final professionals.
He joined Dayanand Medical College on 1st Sept., 1988 as Lecturer Cardiology Unit. With the active support of my seniors he have been able to make this unit functional. He has been able to introduce Holter monitor and run stress electrocardiographic monitoring labs, I am actively involved in 2 Dimensional and Color Doppler Echocardiography. He developed a regular Pacemaker Implantation Programme and have done 600 temporary pacings and 300 permanent pacemaker implantations. He started the new intensive coronary care unit, 8 bedded with Telemetry and invasive Haemodynamic monitoring. He also routinely perform single averaging Electrocardiography and Stress Echocardiography. In last 10 years we have been involved in research actively and he have published 33 Papers, 9 of term in Foreign Journals of repute like journal of American College of Cardiology. American Journal of Cardiology, British Heart Journal and Japanese Heart Journal. 29 of his papers have been present in National and International Conference including American Heart Association Meetings in 1989 and 1993 and 11th International Congress of Nephrology in Tokyo. He also conducted few animal experimental studies on atherogenity of oxidized cholestrol and a British collaborative study on Coronary Heart Disease. He has been a co supervisor of 23 MD theses in these 13 years.
He have been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and have been invited in various CME programmes in different hospitals. He attended American College of Cardiology Conference at Atlanta in 1991 as Heart Beat International Fellow. He is the Medical Director of Ludhiana Rotary Pacemaker Bank. I had the honor of being awarded Sujoy B. Roy Fellowship in 1993 and worked in Cardiac Cathetrisation and Doppler Echocardiography Laboratory in AIIMS from 15th December, 1993. He attended the American College of Cardiology Conference at Los Angels in year 2000 as Heart Beat International Fellow. He attended Cath Lab for a period of one month at Kaizer Sunset Hospital at Los Angeles in April 2000. This is Tertiary care Cardiac Center, there about 30 procedures are done every day. He attended the teaching programme as well. He has been performed interventional procedures initially at Metro Hospital, Delhi in 1997 and then since September 1998 has been performing procedures in the Cath Lab at Apollo Hospital, Delhi 2 to 3 times at a month. For this laboratory he have performed around 300 Coronary Angiographies and 80 PTCA as first and second performer. I was member of Core Committee, which has formulated Indian Guidelines Management of Hypertension 2001 for the first time. This committee was formed by API, CSI, ICP and HSI India. The Committee consisted of six Consultants from all over country.
Presently he is working as CHIEF CARDIOLOGIST cum COORDINATOR in Hero DMC Heart Institute, DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana.
