Dr. Edell is a graduate of the University of Kansas, School of Medicine (1981). After his Internal Medicine Residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansa, he obtained his training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, where he became a Professor of Medicine in 2003. Dr. Edell has been an opinion leader in bronchoscopy, interventional bronchoscopy, and early lung cancer detection for many years, and has numerous publications in leading journals. Much of his career has been devoted to the study of imaging modalities for early lung cancer detection and to the use of photodynamic therapy for lung cancer treatment. He is a sought after speaker at national and international conferences, and has served as an officer in numerous international and national respiratory and bronchology organizations. In 2007, Dr. Edell was elected President of the American Association for Bronchology, and is a member of the Board of Regents of the World Association for Bronchology.
