Dr. Manoj Kumar has been awarded PhD in Plant Sciences with specility in Plant Tissue Culture and Molecular. His PhD work involved the noble in vitro regeneration system of a recalcitrant fruit tree species (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) using broad spectrum phytohormones, and tissue culture techniques, used the molecular markers (RAPD/AFLP) to show the genetic fidelity among the tissue culture raised saplings. Dr. Kumar has developed innovative mico-propagation techniques to tissue culture difficult species of plant.
Manoj kumar investigated the role of stress (salt- and dehydration) responsive transcription factor (DREB1A and DREB2A, in Setaria ittalica. In the plant stress physiology research, he identified a distinct set of genes in response to these stresses.
