Biography

Carlos Vasconcelos was born in 1952. He was born in a nearby village of Porto S. João da Madeira, but since the age of 13 living in invicta, considering therefore Porto and FC Porto. He graduated in medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto, having entered the St. Anthony's Hospital in January 1977. Early on he realized that his field was internal medicine, because "it is one of the specialties where you can always go further," because there are several types of Internal Medicine. On the other hand, "this is a pluripotent specialty, which allows differentiation in numerous areas," which "does not mean that everyone has the ability to do everything, but everyone has the ability to do whatever they want, as long as work and to differentiate themselves in the area. "In addition to internal medicine, Carlos Vasconcelos realized that Immunology was clearly a way to go and during boarding school, did a year of Immunology. "Even during the internship in Internal Medicine, he went every day between 16.00 h and 19.00 h for the Laboratory, precisely because they fell in love with this area," indicates, developing that began by the acquired immune deficiencies, even before he knew in 1982 it was caused by a virus. Lupus has always been a passion that led him later to develop a doctoral thesis in this area.
