Abstract :

Opinion of population of Kinshasa City on Helicobacter pylori phenomenon responsible of numerous extra-digestive pathologies in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Hp-ODRC): Since 1990, our Laboratory of Toxicology is in charge of a research work about a phenomenon in DRC, characterized by numerous pathologies. Surprisingly, our laboratory established in 2010 a surprising link between the phenomenon and Helicobacter pylori infection. This paper addresses the opinion of Kinshasa population on the phenomenon. A descriptive survey was conducted in the population of Kinshasa city. The population of study was calculated according to the classic epidemiological formula and a total of 460 subjects have been selected. Parameters of interest were: description of the phenomenon (origin, cause, and signs), role of traditional practitioners, place of modern practitioners, problems rose in the community, link between the phenomenon and Helicobacter pylori. As results, 430 participants have responded to the questionnaire, including 32 doctors, 66 pharmacists and 66 nurses. The problem is serious in the country but some doctors see it imaginary. Traditional practitioners are the principal resource for the population but they know nothing about Helicobacter pylori. The phenomenon raises many difficulties in the community. In conclusion, we think it necessary to let know quickly the new features of Helicobacter pylori observed in our laboratory and to reevaluate the treatment policy of Helicobacter pylori to take in count the described intoxication component.

Biography :

Patrick Ndelo Matondo is pharmacist from the University of Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo. He graduated in July 2006 and joined immediately the Laboratory of Toxicology of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Kinshasa. After full training in toxicology, he performed a master in Molecular Biology and nowadays is about to start another master in Public Health at the School of Public Health of the University of Kinshasa. He is registered as student in PhD process.
