Introduction: The present study was done to evaluate the protective and improvement effects of oral administration of each of pumpkin pulp and seeds (Cucurbita moschata & Cucurbita maxima) Ethanolic and Methanolic extracts on gastrointestinal ulcer lesions induced by oral administration of Ethanol and Aspirin in rats. Methods. The methanolic and ethanolic extracts of both pumpkin species were tested at two doses (100 and 200 mg/kg, p.o.) for their effect on gastric secretion and gastric ulcers induced by ethanol and aspirin in 36 rats. The antiulcer activity of pumpkin was comparable with that of Omeprazole .Results. We noted a significant reduction in ulcer index. Acid secretion parameters, such as total acidity, pH and gastric fluid volume, were also significantly reduced. It can also be seen that pumpkin Ethanol extract of two species C.Moschata & C.Maxima gave a maximum effect in reducing gastric ulceration. The results of the qualitative analysis revealed that the ethanolic extract was rich in polyphenols and flavonoids. Our study has also shown that both pumpkin species have a very high antioxidant power. Conclusion. the present study provide preliminary data on the antiulcer potential of of two species of Pumpkin C.Moschata & C.Maxima.
