Lymphoid hyperplasia is an increase in the number of normal cells (called lymphocytes) that are contained in lymph nodes. This most often happens when there is an infection with bacteria, viruses, or other types of germs and is part of the body's reaction to the infection. Traditional treatment modalities for RLH include corticosteroids and external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). Rituximab is a chimeric humanized monoclonal antibody directed against CD20 receptors, found on B lymphocytes. Variably successful treatment of orbital RLH has been described with rituximab. Diffuse nodular lymphoid hyperplasia of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare disease characterized by numerous small polypoid nodules in the small intestine, large intestine, or both. It is associated with immunodeficiency and infection, such as Giardia lamblia and Helicobacter pylori.
