Chronic Alcoholism

A chronic disease of the brain which is characterized by compulsive decision making, impulsive behaviour and relapse is considered as Alcoholism, caused due to genetic and environmental factors. It causes biological changes in brain that does not allow the person to restrain from alcohol without any medical treatment. This disease can be self-diagnosed. Symptoms include inability to control alcohol intake, cravings, shakes, regret and guilt. Medical treatments include supervised detox, residential rehab and outpatient therapy. Binge drinking which means drinking more amount of alcohol in less period of time, causes significant health and safety risks. If the drinking pattern results in repeated stress and problems in your daily life, then you are likely to have alcohol disorder.
