When a person has prediabetes, their blood glucose levels are consistently high but not yet high enough to develop into type 2 diabetes. People with prediabetes have an raised risk of Type 2 diabetes. An predicted 35% of adults have prediabetes. Prediabetes is now identified as a reversible condition that increases an individual’s risk for advancement of diabetes. Lifestyle risk factors for prediabetes include overweight and physical stagnation. It is increasingly recognised as an important metabolic state, as individuals with prediabetes are at high risk of developing overt diabetes and its associated complications. Because of these associated risks, vigilance of prediabetes allows better indication of diabetes trends and of the resources that will be necessary to treat rising diabetes.
