Biography

Roger S Holmes works as Emeritus Professor in Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery, School of Biomolecular and Physical Sciences, Griffith University, Australia. Holmes investigates the molecular genetics and biochemical properties of gene family members associated with carbonyl metabolism (carboxylesterase or CES) or alcohol metabolism (alcohol dehydrogenase [ADH] aldehyde dehydrogenase [ALDH]) in mammals, including humans. CES is predominantly responsible for drug metabolism in the body and exists as 5 major forms, including CES1, the major liver enzyme; CES2, the major intestinal enzyme; and other forms (CES3, CES5 and CES6) that await further investigation.
