Dr. José E. Capó-Aponte has received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York, State College of Optometry in the field of Vision Sciences. Currently, he is working as Director of the Optometry Department at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), located in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He has successfully completed his Administrative responsibilities as WAMC and Keller Army Community Hospital Residency Program Director as well as chief of the Visual Sciences Research Branch at the US Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory. His primary research interests include vision and ocular sciences, particularly corneal healing and visual sequelae of traumatic brain injury. He has received several awards and honors, such as: Order of Military Medical Merit, 2013 Army Optometrist of the Year Award from Armed Forces Optometric Society, National Academies of Practice Medallion Award, William C. Ezell Award. He is serving as a reviewer member of several reputed journals like: Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development; Military Medicine; Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine; Brain Injury. He has published more than 20 scientific articles and case reports in peer-reviewed journals and is an author of four book chapters. He is a member of the National Academy of Practice, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Academy of Optometry, National Board of Examiners in Optometry, Armed Forces Optometric Society, and the American Optometric Association.
