Biography

Dr Ajit Shinto, Chief of Nuclear Medicine services at KMCH and treasurer of the KMCH research foundation, completed his MBBS from St Johns National Academy of Health Sciences,Bangalore and Post graduation in Nuclear Medicine at Tata Memorial Hospital and BARC, Mumbai. He underwent the National Board certification after further training at Narayana Hrudayalaya,Bangalore and went on to set up the Dept of Nuclear Medicine at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences,Kerala and at KMCH,Coimbatore. He has more than 50 International peer reviewed journal publications,is a Co-Editor in Chief for International Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Research and is a reviewer for numerous other International Journals. He has won many awards for scientific paper presentations and is a renowned speaker for national and international scientific meets. He has pioneered Re 188 Lipiodol based intra arterial therapy (TARE)in inoperable liver cancer and hepatic metastases and the center serves as the nodal training center for the rest of the country as well as six other countries. He serves as the executive member and special adviser to the Government for setting up Nuclear Medicine facilities as well as for the radio nuclide and targeted therapy committee. He has received plaudits for his outstanding contribution to research and education and is the author of multiple book chapters on the utility of PET CT and Radionuclide therapy.
