A fever is the point at which an individual's internal heat level is higher than typical. For a great many people, ordinary is generally 98.6° Fahrenheit (37° Celsius). "Second rate" implies that the temperature is somewhat raised — somewhere in the range of 98.7°F and 100.4°F (37.5°C and 38.3°C) — and goes on for over 24 hours. Tireless (ceaseless) fevers are ordinarily characterized as fevers enduring more than 10 to 14 days.
