Microbial Physiology

Microbial physiology is defined as the study of how microbial cell structures, growth and metabolism function in living organisms. It covers the study of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. The Microbial Physiology group studies the physiology of the anaerobic microorganisms and anaerobic microbial communities that play an important role in environmental biotechnological processes, such as wastewater treatment, soil remediation, production of chemicals and biofuels and recovery of metals. It is also conveyed as the study of microbial cell functions which includes the study of microbial growth, microbial metabolism and microbial cell structure. Microbial physiology is important in the field of metabolic engineering and also functional genomics.
