Lupus Nephritis

Lupus nephritis is kidney inflammation caused by systemic lupus erythematosus. It is an autoimmune disease, a disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the body’s own cells and organs. Up to 60% of people with systemic lupus erythematosus are diagnosed with lupus nephritis, which can lead to significant illness and even death.

Systemic lupus erythematosus may damage different parts of the kidney, leading to interstitial nephritis, nephrotic syndrome. It may rapidly worsen to kidney failure. One of the first signs of lupus nephritis is blood in urine or extremely foamy urine. In addition, high blood pressure and swelling in feet might indicate lupus nephritis.
