Biography

Ankur Patwardhan holds a doctoral degree in Environmental Sciences. He is acting as Head, Department of Biodiversity, Abasaheb Garware College, University of Pune (www.mesbiodiversity.in). His current research projects focus on Ecosystem Service Assessment of Sacred Forests, Recovery, including Ex-situ and Bioprospecting of threatened plant taxa from Western Ghats of India, one of the 34 global biodiversity hot-spots. It includes quantification and mapping of plant resources of Western Ghats, besides documenting traditional knowledge and community conservation practices. He also undertakes Ecological Assessments projects and Biodiversity Management Plans. In honorary capacities, he guides research activities at RANWA (www.ranwa.org) and is on the editorial board of Biodiversitas : The journal of Biological Diversity & African Journal of Environmental Science and Technology (AJEST). He is a member of High Level Monitoring Committee of Ministry of Environment & Forests for Eco-Sensitive Zone of Mahabaleshwar-Pachgani, Maharashtra, India.

Research Interest

Recovery, including ex-situ and bioprospecting of threatened plant taxa from Western Ghats of India, one of the 34 global biodiversity hot-spots. It includes quantification and mapping of plant resources of Western Ghats, besides documenting traditional knowledge and community conservation practices. I also undertake environmental impact assessments (EIA) projects and management plans.
